For decades refugee and migrant organisations settled in Europe have served as bridges between new arrivals and their receiving societies, providing all kind of support and developing local solutions. Despite the crucial role they play, the voice of refugees and migrants are largely unheard in policy discussions at national and EU level.
Hence the Greek Forum of Refugees (GFR) founded and coordinate the project RISE (Refugees’ Ideas and Solutions for Europe), which goal is to create a sustainable refugees’ and migrants’ European network able to recommend and share refugees’ knowledge and experience to improve refugee policies at EU level. The project, in partnership with the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) aims at revealing refugee and migrant communities not exclusively as beneficiaries of social services, but rather as actors, who can contribute with their expertise to smoothen their inclusion.
RISE attempts to change these circumstances by empowering refugees and migrants across Europe, which will hold consultations by collecting the main issues and challenges they are facing in Europe. Based on these consultation sessions and exchange workshops in different European countries, RISE will elaborate policy recommendations that will be disseminated by social medias and official channels, with main goal to influence the EU policy discussion. RISE is an opportunity to strengthen refugees’ and migrants’ voices at national and European level and to reveal their potential as knowledgeable and experienced partners.
